The EIB, the European Unions bank, is seeking to recruit for its Secretariat General (SG) - EIB Institute Department (EIBI), at its headquarters in Luxembourg: TRAINEE

Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 01st September/October 2024)

Objective of the traineeship

Under the supervision of the EIB Institute Director and the Head of the Knowledge and Impact Division, you will contribute to various tasks related to (i) the relationship between the EIB Institute sponsored Chair at the European University Institute (EUI) (ii) the crafting of different content focused on promoting Chair sponsored research. You will also contribute to the establishment of the EIB Institute as a thought leader on climate policy, economic security, and competitiveness through the creation of articles showcasing our activities, forward looking research and data driven analysis.

SPECIFIC POST ENVIRONMENT
The EIB Institute (or EIBI) was set up within the EIB Group (the European Investment Bank and the European Investment Fund or EIF) as the philanthropic arm of the EIB Group to promote and support education, social economy, and culture through initiatives in cooperation with European stakeholders to back the integration of the EIB Group’s impact at all levels. The Institute strives to reduce inequalities, enhance knowledge, innovation, and competitiveness, and it ensures cohesion across Europe. The EIBI aligns itself with the wider strategy of the EIB Group.
The EIBI also strives to focus on thought leadership activities aimed at driving conversations and shaping discourse around critical issues related to social impact, innovation, and climate action. By engaging with thought leaders and influencers, the division seeks to catalyse meaningful change and inspire collective action on a large scale.

Responsibilities

Your main tasks will be:
  • act as a bridge, facilitating communication and collaboration between the European Investment Bank Institute (EIBI) and the European University Institute (EUI).
  • coordinate roundtable discussions—virtual or in-person—bringing together experts, stakeholders, and thought leaders.
  • assist in logistical arrangements, participant invitations, agenda development, and post-event follow-up, ensuring the smooth execution of these valuable platforms for dialogue and collaboration.
  • contribute thought-provoking articles on relevant topics, positioning the EIBI as a thought leader and showcasing EIB Group expertise.
  • conduct research, draft articles, and collaborate with subject matter experts to articulate innovative perspectives and solutions.
  • participate in foresight exercises—anticipating future trends, risks, and opportunities.
Through research and data analysis you will:
  • support the identification of emerging areas impacting green finance and climate policies (e.g., digital transformation, AI…);
  • create content highlighting EIBI’s climate initiatives.
  • craft compelling narratives that highlight the organizations initiatives, achievements, and impact in the realm of sustainability and climate action.


Academic qualifications and professional skills

  • University degree (completed Bachelor is accepted with ongoing Master) in Environmental Science, Economics, Social Sciences, or any other relevant discipline with a preferred focus on climate change and environmental protection policies.
  • Excellent data analysis skills
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office software (i. e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Excellent knowledge of English. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.
  • Some experience and interest for communication and dissemination activities
  • Some experience (at student level is also acceptable) with event management and volunteering.
  • Understanding of the EIB and EIF mission and activities as well as the operating and political framework in which the Bank operates, including EU affairs, will be considered an important asset.
